Bridgeman Images press release – 23 November, 2018.

We are very excited to announce that, thanks to the partnership between Mondadori Portfolio and the Ambrosiana, we now represent the amazing Veneranda Biblioteca Ambrosiana collection, which is comprised of over 6,000 images and contains some of the most important works of literature and fine art in the world.

The Ambrosian Library is the oldest public library in Italy, and has an amazing collection of manuscripts from far-flung Arabic countries, Russia, China, India and Japan, as well as Italy.

Most notably it includes the Codex Atlanticus, which is the largest anthology of drawings and writings by Leonardo da Vinci, and covers a diverse range of topics from flight to weaponry, musical instruments, mathematics, and botany.

Alongside the library is the Ambrosian Art Gallery (Pinacoteca Ambrosiana) which houses an impressive selection of Italian and European art, such as da Vinci’s Portrait of a Musician, Caravaggio’s Basket of Fruit, and Raphael’s cartoon of The School of Athens.

Bridgeman Images is delighted to have been chosen to represent this wonderful collection which is perfectly complimentary to our archive of art, historical and cultural imagery.

Bridgeman Images are now the exclusive representatives of the Ambrosiana collection in the UK, USA and France whilst the collection is available to license in most other territories. We look forward to helping you with all your licensing requests.

If you have any questions regarding this collection, please do not hesitate to contact us.
