FOCAL International, the organisation representing the global footage and content industry plus professional archive researchers and allied facilities, has announced the schedule for its Footage Continuing Personal Development (formerly Footage Training Week) which runs 19-23 September 2016 in London, UK.

This course gives an introduction to the commercial audio-visual industry from archive to exploitation and is designed for anyone, from anywhere in the world, who needs to know more about the footage industry – image archivists, footage and content producers, footage and content researchers, production managers, producers, directors, archive librarians and anyone wanting to know about this industry – whatever your media background, this is a wonderful opportunity to expand your knowledge and appreciation of the world of footage archives, their systems and uses.

Day 1 – 19th September: At the Imperial War Museum covering the history of film and video technology and includes some hands-on experience using different film formats

Day 2 – 20th September: Delegates will travel out of town to experience restoration processes in action and tour of Pinewood Studios followed by the integration of the BBC Motion Gallery content into the Getty Images collections at BBC Television Centre.

Day 3 – 21st September: RESEARCHING FOOTAGE AND CONTENT CONFERENCE at the Westminster University, Regents Street Campus – led by a panel of professional Researchers who ‘tell it like it is at the coal face’ – from the project briefing, accessing the content, through research, copyright clearance and 3rd party rights to include artistes, music, sport and formats plus delivering for the edit. Orphan Works and ECL will also be discussed.

Day 4 – 22nd September: COPYRIGHT AND ARCHIVE FORUM to be held at the world famous Regents Street Cinema (the cinema was the first in the country to show moving pictures. FOCAL International Summer Networking Party – to be held at: The Glasshouse, Holiday Inn, 30 Jamestown Rd, London, NW1 7BY

Day 5 – 23rd September: AP Archive will talk on metadata, cataloguing and clip sales within their archive and finalising the day at Sky News looking at the fast turnaround world of media management and newsroom workflow.
