FootageFest 2018 a new transatlantic partnership in the heart of Hollywood

FOCAL International press release – 2 July, 2018.

FOCAL International announce partnership to deliver a weekend of lively seminars, focused networking, and fun, in the iconic and cool environs of North Hollywood 22-23 September 2018.

FOCAL International and AMCUP, two of the world’s leading trade associations for archive footage producers and libraries, present FootageFest – a unique series of events and sessions that bring together buyers and sellers from both sides of the transatlantic pond. The two day festival will give delegates real insights into working with footage in both the UK and USA – diplomatically and effectively breaking down the unknowns, the stereotypes, the differences, as well as embracing the intercontinental similarities. This is footage without borders for the twenty-first century for the benefit of AMCUP and FOCAL members and the wider community of footage lovers. FootageFest will happen in several of North Hollywood’s diverse and lively venues: El Portal Theatre, Lumination Space, HaHa Comedy Club, Laemmle NoHo Theatres and the Raven Playhouse on 22 and 23 September 2018.

The weekend will include topical seminars with leading US and UK industry figures, covering essential issues such as the process and pitfalls of licensing to and from US and UK companies; the fine art of research for historical, entertainment and news projects across the continents; as well as new and innovative ways to safeguard and trace illicit reuse of content. Delegates can engage with their transatlantic counterparts throughout the festival and workshops as well as mingle and meet colleagues and peers at the continental breakfast, Footage & Photo Trivia Contest, after dinner party and MUCH MORE. Buyers and sellers can also participate in the focused yet fun FootageFest Face-off – a speed-networking forum – and enjoy screenings from critically acclaimed documentaries and conversations with the people who helped make them.

Entry to FootageFest is free for all AMCUP and FOCAL International members. Tickets will be available to book shortly.

The final schedule for the weekend will be announced in the next week.

“Although we are an ocean apart, both FOCAL and AMCUP have made it our mission to bring third-party content users and providers together for the purposes of increasing commerce and creating more variety for today’s producers. We are delighted to host our British colleagues this Fall, and we look forward to many FootageFest’s in the future.”

Steven Kozak: Founder of AMCUP

“Joining forces with AMCUP is an exciting prospect for FOCAL and our members. FootageFest 2018 will bring together so many key people from both sides of the Atlantic Ocean in a productive yet relaxed environment. We’re looking forward to the connections and future collaborations it may bring.”

Madeline Bates: General Manager – Outreach, FOCAL International

Since its launch three years ago AMCUP is now close to having 300 members worldwide.
