An excellent opportunity exists to head up the technology and production side of the business at Capture Ltd – a small, well-established and growing technical company (headcount 32), with a fantastic client-base including Wimbledon (All England Lawn Tennis Club), the British Library and many other household names.

Sophisticated handling of images, videos, audio files and documents is required by the company’s international client base of sports, cultural and media organisations as they seek to maximise the value of their assets.

Our pioneering cloud-based technology enables this digital content to be distributed to multiple global destinations within seconds of being created.

The friendly, professional operation is based in the picturesque village of Goring on Thames – but a move to central Reading is imminent, with the new office located within two minutes’ walking distance of the station – as the company embarks on a major new stage in its evolution.

The Ideal Candidate

This is a leadership role requiring excellent communication skills.

The ideal candidate will have a technical background – perhaps working with PHP/MySQL and delivering digital content solutions – but also have management and client-facing experience.

Above all they should have a real desire to take their experience and nurture and grow the technical and delivery teams at Capture – and help shape the future success of this ambitious company.

They will enjoy working closely with the Head of Product Vision, Head of User Experience and Head of Client Services empowering staff to deliver products and services that delight our clients, put Capture at the forefront of its field and foster a happy, productive, innovative, and well-nurtured team.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • To play a key role as part of the senior management team, taking responsibility for all aspects of the company’s technology – delivery of products and solutions; infrastructure; security.
  • To provide effective management of the technology team – hiring, managing, mentoring and developing the technical team members.
  • To manage and be responsible for delivering the company’s product roadmap and client solutions, ensuring that they are consistently high quality, robust, scalable, on time and on budget.

KEY DUTIES

  1. Management
    a) To provide the leadership, inspiration and energy to run a successful, productive and happy technical team.
    b) To manage and develop the technical team’s capabilities. Supervise staff and support their development and training.
    c) To carry out staff appraisals, set objectives and inspire all individuals within the technical team to deliver their best work.
    d) To provide insight, input and actions that support the activity of the management team in delivering the company’s strategy and objectives.
    e) To coordinate the effective recruitment and onboarding of new technical team members
    f) To work closely with the other senior managers – in particular the Head of Solutions, Products and Architecture; Head of Design and Interaction; and the Head of Client Services.
  2. Technical
    a) To oversee and coordinate all aspects of the company’s technology including product development, client solutions delivery, QA, design/UX and infrastructure.
    b) To establish, enforce and continually improve technical working practices, coding standards, and documentation practices.
    c) To implement and drive the adoption of suitable quality controls and processes to ensure delivered work meets a very high standard of development and operation.
    d) To effectively communicate the team’s progress across the company. To proactively manage and deal with any issues or challenges that affect the team or its work.
  3. Commercial
    a) To provide input and support to the commercial team in achieving the company’s commercial objectives. To include attending client pre and post-sale meetings as required, providing guidance on appropriate technical solutions, written technical input on proposals and scoping documents to help the company secure new projects and clients.
    b) To provide effective and timely management information in areas such as resource utilisation, R&D tax credit claims, project profitability, system uptime and other metrics.
