Are you interested in science, history or photography and enjoy working with a diverse range of people? Do you have experience in new business?

About us

One of the strategic ambitions of the Science Museum Group (SMG) is to extend our reach and to increase income.

The Cultural and Commercial Partnerships team is critical in realising this aim as part of the Group’s commercial Enterprise department. We raise SMGs profile nationally and internationally, commercially leveraging our brand, content, and skills and create new partnerships worldwide.

Our picture library hosts wholly owned collections from 5 National Museums, and third-party collections including Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew. We licence images, ranging from some of the oldest photography in the world – and also licence footage, including the first ever colour film, and artworks, such as the Railway Posters from the 20th Century.

As guardians of the brand, the licensing team produce book publications, authorise the use of branding on products and issue image licenses. Through its activity, licensing reaches a wide international audience whilst inspiring futures.

About the role

We are looking for a Media Licensing Executive to join us on a contract until April 2023, to build and maintain relationships with key licensing clients.

Focusing on sales and business development, you will proactively approach and engage with clients, handle contract negotiations, follow up on expired licences and be involved in various marketing activities.

You will also collaborate with a range of colleagues across the organisation and with external contacts, on a variety of projects in order to facilitate project delivery.

This role will offer hybrid working, with a base of one of the following Science Museum Group sites, depending on your preference – London, Bradford, York or Manchester. However, please note that you will be required to visit London where the team is based.

About you

Joining us, you will be a good communicator with great interpersonal skills, using your autonomy and organisation skills to manage your workload across the subgroups within the team.

Whether you have built your experience in brand, agency, TV, publishing, film, or other attractions – we are keen to hear from you. What will be key is a good understanding and background of media (image, footage, and sound) licensing, photography, intellectual property, client relationship management and business development.

You possess the confidence to develop new business and have a good visual eye to help you sell assets. View the Vacancy information pack:

What we offer

Joining us as an employee, you will have the opportunity to develop your career in a world-class museum group.  We know work/life balance and wellbeing is crucial to our colleagues, so we offer up to 25 days annual leave in addition to bank holidays; a support with personal and professional development; employee assistance programme; enhanced contributory pension; and enhanced support for things that happen in life such as parental and adoption leave, sickness and career breaks.

‘Open for All’ is one of the Science Museum Group’s five core values and sets out our important aspiration to be a place for everyone. As a national museum group, we have an ability to reach a wide and diverse population of audiences, colleagues and partners through our geography and scale.

We are working hard to understand our organisation better and to foster a culture that recognises and values different backgrounds, mindsets, skills, experience, knowledge and expertise. By having greater diversity, we believe that we will be a stronger and better organisation and ultimately will be able to inspire more futures. We therefore welcome applications from those who bring difference.
