The role of Photographer presents an exciting opportunity for a skilled and passionate individual to join the Ashmolean team to engage with a number of photographic scenarios: from photography of artworks from its world-class collection, to documenting events, private views, online retail products and other Museum activities.

There will also be a requirement to undertake regular photography work for the Pitt Rivers Museum and requests to support occasional work for other GLAM museums.

The successful candidate will work within a small team, be responsible for managing equipment budget, ensuring the highest standards in terms of quality and deadlines are met and constantly seeking to make improvements and create efficiencies.

The post-holder will also work closely with colleagues in the Picture Library and Digital Collections to streamline digital workflows and contribute quality metadata using the frameworks in place, as well as ensuring that commercial priorities are balanced alongside ongoing internal projects and requirements.

The post-holder will produce digital images for a variety of needs across the museum including both print and web publication.

The post-holder would work closely with the Digital Collections team in order to contribute to the Museum’s digitisation programme.

They will be required to maintain the Museum’s high-quality production levels – from initial capture to manipulation and metadata enrichment to upload – in a busy environment, with the added responsibility of handling and caring for valuable and fragile artworks.

The successful candidate will be based primarily in the Ashmolean Museum’s Photographic Studio (but may from time to time, be required to work offsite, particularly at the Pitt Rivers Museum), and will receive training in object handling, imaging processes and image standards.

This is a full-time permanent post.
