Mary Evans Picture Library press release.

Mary Evans Picture Library, the UK’s leading source for historical images, is delighted to announce that its one millioneth image has just gone online.

Somewhat appropriately it is an image of a “Coming of Age” cake that was displayed at the Bakers’ & Confectioners’ Exhibition which was held at the Agricultural Hall in London in 1913. The image comes from the Grenville Collins Postcard Collection which is exclusively represented by Mary Evans Picture Library. Grenville Collins himself was delighted that one of his images should mark this special moment.

Paul Brown, Managing Director of Mary Evans said “This is a real milestone for our online collection and is testament to the hard work of the staff to get so much content scanned from the original documents in the library. Producing high resolution scans from original material often hundreds of years old is certainly the best way to ensure clients have the best quality digital images for reproduction. Now onto the next million. There is certainly enough material for that and beyond.”
