Mary Evans Picture Library: Studio Canal EDITED FOR YOU

Studio Canal Collage

Mary Evans Picture Library present a number of curated image sets to help navigate the unique Studio Canal collection of film and film making.

From Bernard Cribbins to Julie Christie, Joan Collins to Tom Courtenay, not to mention Vanessa Redgrave, Leslie Caron, Nanette Newman, Edward Fox, Malcolm McDowell, James Bolam, Terence Stamp and many more, click here to see a fascinating overview of British film and television’s elder statesmen and women at the start of their illustrious careers.

The Studio Canal archive goes beyond standard stills and publicity shots, and also boasts a fine selection of images relating to film-making as well as light-hearted behind-the-scenes images of stars off-duty. Highlights include Tony Hancock sending Sylvia Syms into fits of laughter on the set of The Punch & Judy Man, Harry H. Corbett clowning around with an obliging greyhound in Steptoe & Son Ride Again, and Joan Littlewood directing Barbara Windsor in Sparrows Can’t Sing. It’s terrific stuff.

Studio Canal also offers a rich range of film posters from hundreds of films including The Wicker Man, The Third Man, The Railway Children, Brighton Rock, Summer Holiday, The Man Who Fell to Earth and several delightful designs for Ealing comedies.

Finally, a set of images blending creative photography with an edgy nostalgia – perfect for prints, greetings cards, calendars as well as editorial use. Images include David Essex, Keith Moon and Ringo Starr in That’ll Be The Day, the Carry On cast hamming it up and some fabulously retro publicity shots from One Million Years B.C.

This selection is just the tip of the iceberg. Unlike mohst film resources, Mary Evans can arrange for many of the Studio Canal images to be licensed for non-editorial use. Contact pictures@maryevans.com if you would like to discuss a project or have a search request.
