My 4Corners: ephemeral and everlasting

Italy, Trentino-Alto Adige, Alto Adige, Südtirol, Dolomites, Bolzano district, Alta Pusteria, Dolomiti di Sesto Natural Park, Double Rainbow at Tre Cime di Lavaredo (Drei Zinnen) over two lakes

In Italy’s Dolomite Mountains near the border with Austria, you find the fantastic Tre Cime di Lavaredo, sometimes called the Drei Zinnen. It’s an awe-inspiring spot at the top of the world, a mysterious place where clouds are born and legend says that witches whirl and scream their curses on cold and stormy nights.

With such dreadful company on the mountain, photographer Manfred Bortoli was blessed to capture this lovely moment as he hurried home. Ian Trower (currently based in Hong Kong) picked this shot by Manfred Bortoli as one of his favourite 4Corners images: he’d love to photograph the Dolomites when next in Europe. You can click the photographers’ names to see more of their work or see all 4Corners images of the dramatic Dolomites here.
