Cairngorms National Park, Highlands, Scotland, UK © SCOTLAND: The Big Picture / naturepl.comNature Picture Library are delighted to announce that the new conservation project they are supporting this quarter is Trees for Life’s The Reds Return project, which involves translocating red squirrels from their strongholds in the Inverness region of Scotland to areas of suitable forest in the North West Highlands.

These woodlands provide ideal habitat but are too distant from other forest areas to allow the squirrels to recolonise naturally.

NPL have created a new gallery illustrating this vital conservation work, featuring images from SCOTLAND: The Big Picture. You may also like to take a look at the pdf story on red squirrels in Scotland through the seasons, with the outstanding photography of Neil McIntyre. This features as the cover story in the February issue of BBC Wildlife.

NPL will be making a donation to this project from their sales revenue at the end of this quarter, so any images licensed from them between January and March 2018 will help support this important work.
