About Dennis Kunkel, Ph. D.

Dennis Kunkel Ph.D. received technical training in specialized microscopies while earning undergraduate and graduate degrees. During the research career that followed, Dr. Kunkel’s skill as a microscopist led to significant contributions in the fields of botany, microbiology and neurobiology. Collaborative efforts with fellow researchers produced results in other disciplines of science (including zoology, microbiology, and materials science). He has authored and co-authored 59 research papers, in addition to text book chapters and children’s books.

In 2000, demand for Dr. Kunkel’s images led to the establishment of Dennis Kunkel Microscopy, Inc., through which he offered rights-managed images directly to publishers, media and the public.  The recent acquisition of his collection by Science Photo Library (SPL) lends assurance that valued business relationships will continue.  Dr. Kunkel looks forward to devoting more time to outdoor activities, and of course his avid interest, microscopy.  New imagery will be available from time to time exclusively through SPL.
