State of the Industry Survey 2021
This survey was conducted as a key follow on the pandemic one year on. It highlighted similar financial and human resource issues to the previous year affecting members. It showed some positive outlooks for the UK industry, and a slow return to pre- pandemic levels. It looked at recovery from overseas markets which remained largely uncertain. It also showed, signs of growth in areas such as merchandise products and online sales.
A comparison was made between this and the previous survey taken in 2018.
State of the Industry Survey 2018
This survey was conducted during May - June 2018 and was completed by a total of 22 BAPLA members representing a wide variety of types and sizes of business.
The aim was to establish how our members were performing - where the revenue growth was but also what were the more challenging or declining markets.
Members Rights Bundle Research 2017
An online survey of BAPLA members' current offerings in terms of simplified rights bundles and royalty-free pricing conducted in May 2017.
Simplified Rights Model Survey 2016
This survey was conducted in September and October 2016 and a total of 17 BAPLA members responded.
This represents 11% of the membership.
Although the total of responses was disappointing, the results do nevertheless give a clear picture of trends in this area.
Merchandising/Consumer Products Survey 2016
This survey was conducted in December 2015-January 2016 and was completed by a total of 17 BAPLA members, representing members of a variety of types and sizes of business.
It is the first BAPLA survey dedicated to merchandising and retail products and it also analyses rights and pricing for a number of media which BAPLA has not surveyed before, including stationery products and clothing.
Survey on Web, Social Media & Apps 2015
This survey by BAPLA's Rights Group was conducted in the Spring of 2015 and covered both standards and pricing in the web, social media and app markets and the results are shown in both text and graphic form.
Advertising & Promotion Survey 2014
This survey of rights and pricing in the advertising and promotion sector is based on anonymous online responses by just 26 BAPLA members.
The aim of the survey is to show how rights and pricing models are changing in this sector and to offer an objective, historical survey of pricing trends.
It must be kept in mind however, that only a small percentage of the membership answered the survey, so the results are not as completely representative as we would have liked.
Footage Survey 2013
This survey in two parts:
- Part 1 is on the place of footage within the industry and within libraries - how many libraries offer footage, % of their collection, % of sales, methods of licensing/pricing.
- Part 2 is on footage pricing - we had a disappointingly low response to this section, making it a partial survey of pricing trends and it should be treated as such.

Magazine Survey 2011

Digital Rights Model for Magazines 2011
The digital rights model aims to provide a framework which libraries may use to determine under what circumstances it is appropriate to make an additional digital charge.

Fee Negotiation for Apps 2011
These simple notes contain suggested questions to ask when approached to license images for app use, and some suggested parameters for working out a fee structure.
The end fee charged is at the discretion of each picture source.
Book Publishing Survey 2010
This survey aims to address issues surrounding rights for e-books and new digital devices such as the iPad, the demand for digital use to be included within the printed licence fee (bundled rights), unlimited print runs and longer licence terms.

Top Ten Tips for Fee Negotiation
1. Make sure you understand exactly the details of use, including project title, end client and especially limiting factors such as time, size and print-run and the extent of different formats or media - ask your client questions until you are sure about the proposed usage.
