In this webinar, Sharon Mizota will discuss inclusive metadata: what it is, why it’s important, and how it can reflect your institution’s goals for diversity, equity, and inclusion.

This includes understanding the historical biases that have influenced metadata creation as well as best practices to audit, research, and improve your terminology to better reflect the identities and values of the people who use your image collections and those represented within them.

The presentation will conclude with a discussion between Sharon and keywording expert, Clemency Wright, followed by a Q&A.

Sharon Mizota

Inclusive Metadata Consultant

Sharon Mizota is an inclusive metadata consultant who helps archives, museums, libraries, and media organizations transform and share their metadata to improve diversity, equity, and inclusion in the historical record. She has over thirteen years of experience managing and creating metadata for arts and culture organizations, including Walt Disney Animation Studios, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, Harvard Business Publishing, and Curationist.

Sharon is also an art critic and lives on unceded Tongva and Chumash lands in Southern California.

Clemency Wright is a Keywording Consultant helping creative businesses optimise access and visibility to digital content online using strategic Keywording methodologies. Providing bespoke Keywording as an outsourced service, as well as Keywording training workshops and consultancy. Specialising in developing Controlled Vocabularies for creative photography and video, and developing Metadata schemas for in-house image databases and Digital Asset Management systems.

Clemency trained as a Keyworder at Getty Images in 2001, before becoming a Search Vocabulary Editor responsible for creating and editing Getty’s vocabulary of Keywords powering the customer website. In her customer-facing role at V&A Images, Clemency managed design and advertising customer accounts, and advised upon Keywording methodology for the V&A Images online collection.

Clemency blends Keywording expertise for both commercial and non-profit organisations. Clients include Save The Children, World Vision and The Art Fund, as well as stock photographers, videographers and photo licensing agencies.
