TATE IMAGES licenses the photographic output of Tate and provides high-resolution digital images of artwork in the main collection, of items within Tate Archive, of commissioned artworks (Unilever Series and Hyundai Commission) and of all four Tate galleries: Tate Britain, Tate Modern, Tate Liverpool and Tate St. Ives.

TATE IMAGES also clears artistic copyright for the estates of Sir Jacob Epstein, Naum Gabo and Nigel Henderson.

TATE's collection incorporates British art from 1500 to the present day and includes iconic masterpieces by Gainsborough, Constable, Turner, Hockney and Moore, covering diverse subjects such as portraiture, still-life, abstraction and romance.

International modern art is represented from 1900 onwards and features artwork by modern and contemporary artists such as Dali, Picasso, Rothko, Warhol and Pollock. TATE is increasing its holdings of African, Asian and Middle Eastern art including works by Ibrahim El-Salahi, Bhupen Khakhar and Saloua Raouda Choucair.

TATE ARCHIVE contains the personal archives: manuscripts, drawings, sketches, notebooks and photographs of British artists since 1900 and includes the archives of Ben Nicholson, Prunella Clough, Duncan Grant, Keith Vaughan and Henry Scott Tuke.

Artists such as Vanessa Bell, Eileen Agar, Paul Nash, Nigel Henderson and John Piper have donated their extensive photographic collections to Tate.

These collections include intimate photographs of Picasso and Dora Maar on the beach as well as hundreds of images of London's East End. TATE ARCHIVE also holds the collection of David King, the former Sunday Times Magazine art editor, which includes over 250,000 images that tell the story of Russia, from the time of the last Tsars to the 1950's and the fall of Khrushchev.

Important events documented are: the lives of Lenin, Trotsky and Stalin, The Tsars, the 1905 revolution, Russia and World War One, the 1917 revolutions, the Russian Civil War and famine of 1920-21, Five Year Plan of industrialization and collectivization, Moscow trails, the Great Plague and Gulag labour camps.
