Since its inaugural event in 2014, the BAPLA FOCUS conference has established itself as the must-attend event in the image-licensing sector.
The full-day event takes place every autumn at a central London venue.
The program is a mixture of expert panel discussions and presentations by inspirational speakers.
There is also plenty of opportunity to mingle with picture professionals, image buyers and industry suppliers over lunch, morning and afternoon breaks and at the end-of-day drinks.
The stand-out speaker at the 2017 conference was the photographer David Slater. He discussed his ‘monkey selfie’ image which became famous around the world due to a widely reported copyright battle with PETA.
A favourite speaker in 2016 was the artist Susan Aldworth, whose work explores the workings of the human mind.
Panel discussions focus on industry issues.
Recurring themes are the future of licensing, technology trends such as blockchain, rights clearance and changes in copyright law.
