Our informal networking and social event will be held at The Study Studio, Whitechapel Gallery. Tickets can be booked via the link at the bottom of the page.

The Study Studio is a light and airy contemporary space within the Whitechapel Art Gallery. It also holds two artworks from the Gallery’s social sculpture series, which encourage contemplation and discussion. There will be drinks, canapes and opportunity to re-connect with colleagues and friends from the industry. This will be our first in-person event since BAPLA Focus 2019 which was held at The Museum of London and are excited to see as many of you there as possible

The Legal Issues Surrounding AI Generated Works - A Closer Look at the US ruling that AI Generated Works Are Not Copyrightable

In this webinar we revisit the ongoing copyright issues surrounding AI and the protection of human works. We will be joined by legal experts Anna Skurczyńska, Founder Director, Open Plan Law and Jonathan Lockwood, VP Corporate Counsel, Getty Images to take a closer look at the legal situation around AI generated works following the ruling by the US Copyright Office and the US Patent Office in the Stephen Thaler case that AI works are not copyrightable and cannot be patented.

Join us for an open discussion led by BAPLA Executive Board Member Corky Balch as a follow up to the BAPLA Town Hall meeting which considered the Government's response to the recent TDM Artificial Intelligence and Intellectual Property Consultation. Based on the responses we received from our members to our TDM questions BAPLA would like to facilitate a conversation to consider the practical ways in which members can start to licence content for AI. Join us for an insightful, topical discussion.

Networking Social Event

Thursday 15 September at The Study Studio, Whitechapel Gallery Time 1PM -5PM

We are really excited to host our first in-person event since the pandemic started and hope many of you can join team BAPLA and re-connect with colleagues across the industry. The Study Studio is the perfect space for small intimate receptions and holds two artworks from the Whitechapel Gallery’s social sculpture series, which encourage contemplation and discussion. There will be tea, coffee, drinks and canapes. Tickets for this event are free for members, but space is limited so do book your place early. Non-members are also very welcome via the paid for ticket options.
