EU Copyright Directive – Deal or No Deal

British Association of Picture Libraries & Agencies

Deal or No Deal – This is a crucial time for the copyright directive with approval from the Council, Commission and Parliament needed by the end of next week in order to be ratified by April.

If an agreement isn’t reached that supports creative rightsholders, then this is the last time the UK will have a meaningful say on European copyright.

Although we have issues with some of the detail of the text, overall the benefits to creators and industry alike outweigh the current status quo.

In addition, the demoralisation of all the time and effort taken to address many of the problems we face, particularly the online marketplace, would impact discussions on copyright now and in the future.

We face continuing threats of the expansion fair use across many countries across the globe.

So at this decisive moment, alongside CEPIC, we need to show our support and ensure that the directive works for our sector.
