EU Copyright Directive published in Official Journal

British Association of Picture Libraries & Agencies

The EU Copyright Directive was published in the Official Journal today. This means that member states now have two years to transpose the directive into national law.

The transposition deadline is specified in the Journal: “Member States shall bring into force the laws, regulations and administrative provisions necessary to comply with this Directive by 7 June 2021“.

The published document also includes the date when the directive comes into force: “This Directive shall enter into force on the twentieth day following that of its publication in the Official Journal of the European Union”.

The question of whether and when the UK will implement the directive remains dependent on leaving the European Union, or not, before 7 June 2021.
